The program incorporates a lot of physical activities, and works towards physical and spiritual health through out the conference. During the night program, volunteers will be asked to help with watching movies, skits, and craft and preparation for these activities.

HR News Letter II  Theme : Joy of Service

Hello there☆

I hope you are all enjoying the fall. This is Megumi, HR Director for ec07, bringing hot messages on volunteer work from Michigan, where the temperature is quickly dropping…♪

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

- II Corinthians 5:17

When we serve we give up our resources such as time and talent. But we often hear people say “I received way more than what I gave through my service work((((゜∇゜*))))”. Yes, the service work is so much fun. We can be blessed just by participating in ec, but when we get involved with a service work, our experience becomes much deeper and richer.

We want every single participant to experience this joy (>∀<) !!

Especially when we witness people’s lives changed or healed through a touch of God, the joy is so intense it often compels us to give up our lives to Jesus♪Also SMG is where Jesus Community is formed. You will meet frinds who you are going to pray with, encourage each other, and share the walk for the rest of your life, even after the ec is over.

If you are looking for powerful moments like that, then we have perfect service work! Our recommendation for you is to serve as a Small Group Leader (SGL).

Below is the message from Small Group director Sayaka↓。

“I served as a small group leader for the first time in ec04. I had no idea the small step I took then would become one of the pillars to support my spiritual life.

The first Japanese conference. The first small group leader service (SGL). Everyday excitement and tension came one after another. I still remember it very clearly. Of all things, I was so discouraged as a SGL that I thought I couldn't continue during the ec. Many thoughts and feelings got tangled together. I had thought I could do a better job as a SGL, but when I actually interacted with people in the group, I felt inadequate and lost confidence to the point that I couldn't even pray.

Despite all this what I leaned from the experience was not how to lead the group well but that the Lord's glory will shine ever so brightly in my weakness. God provided people to pray with me and I came to truly love my group. Through ec04 and SGL service after that, I've been experiencing the wonderful connections between God and people and with each other, and also amazing work God accomplishes through people.

Some people might be intimidated when they hear the word SGL and hesitate to step forward. I was like that myself. For a long time after I had become a Christian, I was thinking to myself "I'm not prepared enough. I don't have the Bible knowledge. I can't speak in front of people..." But my actual experience as a SGL was far from my humanly idea of, and what the world defines as, a "leader". It was an opportunity for me to get acquainted with God’s awesome work and His love beyond imagination.

Small group is a service, which involves direct interaction with people. I would like to encourage those who are given the passion for God and for people. We welcome people who have experienced SG and love it. We are also eager to have people who have no experience but are interested in the opportunity to lead a group in Japanese in the U.S. We have some time set aside during ec for SGLs to encourage each other, and also SG coordinators (for guidance and counseling) will be available. If requested, we can equip your group with a sub-leader who is experienced. So please respond to God’s calling and step forward now. Let us pray together, encourage each other, and give praises to God for His work.”

If we got 350 participants for this year’s ec, there will be 5 people per SMG, which means there have to be 70 SMG leaders…. That’s right, friend. We are going to need a lot of people for this service!!! Please let us know if you are interested. If you are native or comfortable with English, there will be English speaking groups as well.

HR News Letter 1 Theme
:The qualification for volunteers

"So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view." II Corinthians 5:16

Ec is made possible by each participant's contribution. There are some service works that take some special skills, but many of them require no prior training or experience.

Another word, only qualification necessary to serve is your desire to do something and be used for Jesus and His community!

Also when you participate in a service work, we would like you to consider it as a training opportunity for what God is going to do in your future.

Sayaka from the South, who was crying every night about her small group leader service during ec04, is serving as the small group director this year.

My first participation with ec was in 2005 and I served in small group, prayer ministry, and translation. Had I been judged by the worldly point of view, I was not as qualified or capable as many other people. But God entrusted these tasks to me by His grace. Through the service work I was given an opportunity to witness God's mighty work and grace in action.

This year I believe God wants to entrust you with His important tasks. He has high expectation for you and your future. May this conference be the place for each participant to experience awesome power of God. It is my earnest hope that you will answer His calling.

We are looking for volunteers to for prayer ministry. The main task is to pray for protection and supplication of all needs in the preparation period, and also take turns to support the main sessions with prayer during the conference. Please contact Aki Inoue or myself for more information.

This in one incredible service you can be involved with! I was really blown away by the passionate prayer in the back room during the main session of ec05. It reminded me of Moses praying. While his hands were lifted up in prayer, Israel experienced no defeat. God does truly amazing things through prayer! Hooray!!

This is a very important service. At the same time anybody can be involved in this with or without prior experience. The more people praying the merrier =)

what is ec

Theme

one m.o.re
~ministry of reconciliation~
It’s entrusted to you

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:18 (NIV)

What images conjure up in your mind when you hear the word, "reconciliation?" Is it something personal like reconciling with friends, or something beyond our physical control like reconciliation between nations? According to the Bible, reconciliation is actually something that pertains to all of us.

Two thousand years ago, God sent Jesus Christ to this Earth in order to restore His relationship with us. And with the power of the cross, God reconciled with us. Accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior, and being reconciled with God, we have been entrusted with m.o.re: ministry of reconciliation by God.

Let us seek m.o.re entrusted to you through ec 07!

purpose

equipper conference (ec) is a five night conference which “equips” (Ephesians 4:12) Japanese Christians who met Jesus overseas for their eventual return to their home country as ambassadors of Christ.

“It was He who gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God.” Ephesians 4:11-13

Currently many Japanese are living abroad for various reasons. These include ongoing studies, businesses, and international marriages. The Gospel touches them and many of them become believers, who are to return to Japan some day. There are also those who became Christians in Japan but are now growing spiritually overseas. God can work through them in a great way when they go back to Japan to witness to their families and friends and to spread the Gospel message as they become connected to local churches.

Yet in reality, many of these returnees suffer what is often called "reverse-culture shock" beyond the level they had expected, which affects even their walk with Jesus.  As a result, and regrettably, many of them depart from churches within a few years of returning home.  God has started equipper conference by gathering several missions organizations in order to reverse this sad trend in returnee Christians’ life (please see history).  The purpose of equipper conference is to prepare Japanese Christians abroad (mainly in North America) by cultural and discipleship trainings before their return, so that with God’s encouragement they will be equipped as the disciples of Christ to share His love and forgiveness in Japan.

who should come?

equipper conference (ec) 07 serves people such as,

1) Japanese Christians who plan to go back home;
2) Japanese Christians in North America who serve the Lord;
3) Non-Japanese Christians (English speakers) who are serving such Japanese Christians;
4) Christians in Japan who want to receive and help returnee Christians; and
5) those who are interested in ministry to Japanese people.

(please see the Program Section for more details).

voices of past conferees

“Before coming to ec, I was asking God for the direction of whether I should return to Japan or not next year.  But I am now confident that God brought me the burden for Japan.  I am in peace with returning to Japan.”

“I became a Christian while I was staying in the States.  But now I am living in Japan.  I was spoken through ec as I came back to the place where I became a Christian.  I could realize that I am a missionary to be sent back to Japan.

“I spend my Christian life surrounded by American Christians.  It was a great opportunity that I was reminded of being Japanese.”

“I was so thankful that I could serve the Lord with joy through the conference.  It was grateful that there were lots of precious encounters.  I needed them!!  I hope to have more Christians in Japan.  I would like to work to connect returnees to the churches in Japan.”

“God encouraged me through my encounters with new and old friends.  Through messages and worship, God revealed to me what I need to repent and helped me to know that I didn’t have to blame myself any more.  I want to practice His love which enables me to rejoice in the midst of difficulties and to rejoice for others.”

“[ec] convinced me of God’s existence.”

“By God’s grace, the purpose of ec which is to encourage future returnee Christians was fulfilled.”

“I was delighted that God reminded me of my Japanese identity at ec, because I do not have many Japanese Christians around where I live.”

“I was able to understand the love of God through the cross.  God also helped me to see that I had the gift of leadership through my volunteer service at ec.”

“Ec renewed my devotion to Jesus.  My desires to love the Japanese people and study their language were also renewed.”

“At ec I realized that I had become weary and lethargic in my busy and spiritually difficult life in Japan.  But through praising God, sharing with each other, and praying with my wonderful brothers and sisters I met at ec, my soul was filled with the Holy Spirit.  Even after I came back to my routines in Japan, my heart is still burning.  I would never lose sight of God from now on.”

“I am not a Christian.  At ec I made many precious friends.  I think it was a gift from God, because I’d never thought the friendship would become this important to me.”
